The Rear View Mirror: Santa Barbara Fuck Fest

Editor’s Note:  Jill Messina is a recent UCSB graduate.  She is contributing a series of weekly columns on her experiences during her term at UCSB.

I’ve never attended a Santa Barbara Fuck Fest, but what little information I’ve gathered about them was plenty. If you question my credibility that they even exist, all you have to do is Google those three little words for instant confirmation, not that I’m suggesting you do so...

Are we remotely surprised that the schemers behind College Fuck Fest included Isla Vista as one of their destinations during their nationwide CFF tour? The site boasts that Santa Barbara has the ‘drunkest chicks’ around. While others schools, or states for that matter, are only featured once, Santa Barbara, or more specifically Isla Vista, is featured multiple times.

From the information I’ve been able to gather, the CFF crew are recruited by college kids rearing to throw a College Fuck Fest party of their own, meaning that the CFF has to be cordially invited by residents of I.V. Once they arrive with their camera crew and enough alcohol to fill a swimming pool, party planners and CFF crewmen alike try to saturate the female attendees with as much alcohol as possible, chanting for girl on girl action. If the girl is acting shy, they hand her shot after shot until she has a change of heart, and then a consent form in order to seal the deal.

Clearly this whole scenario is disturbing on many different levels, regardless of which college town is being featured, but it’s the Isla Vista party atmosphere that breeds these types of ‘extracurricular activities’. When people from all over the state of California flock to I.V. for the ultimate party experience, it’s no wonder College Fuck Fest always RSVPs to the myriad of invites it appears they are receiving every year. And if the girl doesn’t want to be videotaped, they boast how they just hide the equipment so the girl is unknowingly being taped. And people thought Girls Gone Wild was unethical and objectified women…?

As long as I.V. emits the ‘anything goes’ party attitude, these types of ‘recreational activities’ will continue to thrive. It’s just one more dark example of where the path of binge drinking leads... and it ain’t pretty.
